Greek Pie Recipes

Kreatopita is a Greek pie with meat.Greeks have a long tradition of pies, pitas. You can find recipes for all kinds of pies with the most popular being the tiropita and the spanakopita. To make the kreatopita you should follow the instructions on how to make the phyllo and then the filling.

Before you proceed to our kreatopita recipe just note that although you can find Greek Pie or pita recipes in many Greek recipe books, you wont be able to find an extensive and delicious kreatopita recipe like this one anywhere else.

The kreatopita, just like every other kind of Greek pita is made in two stages. First stage is to prepare the filling.
Kreatopita Filling Ingredients:
1kg of ground beef
4 small onions
1 cup of ground Parmesan
4 eggs
salt pepper
a bit of nutmeg
½ a cup of oil.
Place the oil in the pot until it warms up and we sauté it with the chopped up onions. Add the ground beef and stir constantly. We then add a glass of water into the pot after which we put the salt, pepper, and the nutmeg and we leave it to boil. When it’s cooked, take it off the stove and leave it to cool down after which we add the parmesan, the egg yolks, and the well beaten egg whites. Stir really well in a mixing bowl.

Phyllo Ingredients:
½ kg of flower
½ a cup of olive oil
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons of vinegar
1 teaspoon of salt.

Prepare the phyllo as follows: we put the flower in a bowl and in the middle of the bowl we create a little hole in which we add the salt, the oil, the vinegar, and slowly add the water. We knead well and make the dough in to a single ball which we leave to “rest” for about half an hour while being cover.

Then take the dough and open it up into four thin phyllo pieces (two of the phyllo pieces should be bigger than the other two). Place the two larger phyllo pieces in the “oils up” bottom of the pan and “oil the up” in between. Add the filling and cover it with the two reaming phyllo pieces (the smaller pieces). Then have to join all the phyllo pieces on the edge of the pan and “oil up” the surface of our pie. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for about an hour. And there you have it a Greek recipe for kreatopita. We have many more Greek pie recipes. They are all delicious and easy to make Greek recipes.
